A

Fraud is knowingly and intentionally falsifying information to obtain a benefit and/or payment which were not entitled.
Waste is the overuse and/or misuse of pharmacy benefits.
Abuse can be actions that results in unnecessary costs to the Medicare Program.
Every year, millions of Medicare dollars are lost as a result of Fraud, Waste or Abuse. Such activity could have a major impact to the quality of benefit Medicare is able to provide to you and other Medicare members.
Some examples to help you identify Medicare Fraud, Waste or Abuse:

  • A pharmacy bills for medications you never received.
  • Someone uses your prescription drug card to obtain medications.
  • Prescription "stock piling". (i.e. re-ordering prescriptions before you need them)
  • Pharmacy bills Granite Alliance for medication "x" and knowingly gives you medication "y" instead.
  • Your physician writes a prescription for you to take a medication two times a day but verbally tells you to take it once a day to make the supply last longer.
  • A company offers a Medicare drug plan that has not been approved by Medicare.
  • A company uses false information to mislead you into joining a Medicare drug plan.

For Employers

Q

What is VRx?

A

VRx is a new kind of pharmacy services management company (PSM) that works with health plans and large employers to manage all aspects of their pharmacy services. VRx is unique in the industry because we are fully transparent to our clients and offer pass-through pricing on all prescriptions – no markup that costs groups some of their savings.

Q

What does it mean to be transparent and why is that important?

A

Transparency is a term that is often used in the pharmacy benefit management industry that means different things to different people. It is funny how a simple word can take on so many meanings. To us, transparency means passing through the actual drug costs negotiated and backing it up by showing our client invoices and finance records that allow them to verify our pricing. VRx never marks up the prescription (sometimes called spread or differential pricing) or gives the perception of better pricing by increasing discounts on some drugs while hiding the true cost of other prescriptions. We always give our clients the best price without a hidden profit margin.

Q

What is "pass-through" pricing?

A

Pass-through pricing means that we pass through the cost of a prescription to our clients and their members without adding additional costs to the prescription. Transparency is the opposite of "buying at wholesale and selling at retail" like most traditional PBMs price their drugs. Instead, VRx charges clients a flat fee per month. An additional benefit of this type of pricing is that our incentives are aligned with our clients, which results in improved care and lower prices. We don't have an incentive to get your members to fill more prescriptions. Our job is to lower the cost of your prescription and pharmacy services.

Q

Who owns VRx?

A

VRx is a privately held company based in Salt Lake City that is owned by a small group of healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, who have a diverse background in healthcare and who are dedicated to improving pharmaceutical care at a lower cost. We are not owned by large retail chains or a mail service pharmacy. We are completely independent from any influence that might misalign our goals with our client's goals.

Q

What are some of the services VRx offers health plans and employers?

A
  • Some of the services we offer our customers include:
    • A nationwide network of retail pharmacies to fill your prescriptions.
    • Mail service pharmacy to deliver prescriptions to your home or office.
